Manual Therapy

Hands-on care that keeps you active

At Austin Manual Therapy we are dedicated to providing you with the most effective manual therapy techniques available. We are committed to providing our patients with the kind of one-on-one care that gets them back to their lives fast. Our main focus is on custom care that centers on gentle, hands-on techniques and individualized exercise programs delivered by board-certified and fellowship-trained manual physical therapists.

Co-directors Benjamin Keene, PT and James T. Harris, PT, along with all of our physical therapists, are fellows of the prestigious American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists and have completed a two and a half year post professional clinical fellowship program. This extensive education in orthopedics is a merit shared by only a small percentage of physical therapists in the entire country.

What makes Manual Therapy so effective?
Austin Manual Therapy Associates utilize research-based manual therapy programs and techniques. By definition, manual therapy is the art and science of one-on-one, hands-on interaction between a physical therapist and a patient. The physical therapist uses specific evidence-based techniques to evaluate and treat soft tissue imbalances and joint injuries. Manual therapy can provide one or more of the following patient benefits:

  • Modulate pain
  • Increase range of motion
  • Reduce or eliminate soft-tissue inflammation
  • Improve contractile & non-contractile tissue repair, extensibility, or stability
  • Induce relaxation
  • Facilitate movement

The treatments we will use to relieve your pain and restore function are based heavily on the osteopathic philosophy that the body functions as an integrated unit. By evaluating and treating dysfunction within the musculoskeletal, myofascial and nervous systems, we can often alleviate pain and ailments in patients who otherwise couldn't be helped by conventional physical therapy.

To give you the best possible rehabilitative results, our physical therapists will assess your needs as well as the unique aspects of your condition. They will then develop a customized program that fits you, combining therapies if need be. We also will be with you, side-by-side, providing hands-on care and encouragement every step of the way.
